We have a number of assessment items where students are asked to discuss books and reading and the like. For some reason, some of them struggle. (Actually, the reason is that many of them just do not read or read much!)

What are they? What makes one book better than another, or at least considered to be part of the canon, while others sit around? What is the canon? All this and more to be discussed…maybe not right now but certainly as part of the ongoing debate within our English faculty.
